RED ROADS Chinese New Year Fireworks
A montage of footage filmed on the streets during Chinese New Year in Shanghai from 2011-2013 on the 1st and 5th days of the Spring Festival. There is no state funded display, all fireworks are bought by individuals and set off constantly over a week during Chinese Year. Fireworks are set off to chase away bad spirits and welcome in the new year. Each night over the course of a week fireworks are set off to honor particular deities. Fireworks are set off constantly for a week throughout the day and night. The first day is to welcome of the deities of the heavens and earth, beginning at midnight. The fifth day is the day to honor the God of Wealth, and is usually the biggest night in regards to fireworks. Since 2016 due to many deaths and accidents during CNY the government restricted the sale of fireworks in the cities, thus these scenes of chaos no longer occur.
Nahash JUE 2015
Nahash -Cine Sonic Explorations **UPDATE: Nahash show has been cancelled due to cultural bureau restrictions. Boris will play as planned. Follow us on facebook for updates on the next Nahash performance. www.facebook.com/RedscaleStudiosShanghai ** On Friday March 13th, 2015 Nahash will support BORIS with a live audio visual performance at QSW Cultural Centre for JUE Festival 2015. Nahash is comprised of Raphael Valensi on sound and Tina Sprinkles on visuals. The pair have released a string of EPs on their Huashan Label which have been described as "getting darker every time". Their sound mixes influences from sinister doom to shrieking Norwegian metal, and this performance will see Nahash joined by Michael Cupoli (Noise Arcade) on the stage to add thundering drums to their fuzzy drones and celluloid explorations. Abandoned 16mm film is mixed with handmade & hand painted film to create a montage of archival footage, lost films and textural experiments. Tina Sprinkles collects discarded 16mm film reels, re-editing found footage to create a surreal film collage. She also works directly on the film strip, painting, scratching and drawing on to the celluloid to create wild abstract landscapes. These “lost films”with out name or narrative, are reappropriated into new elaborate chronologies.
'As One' is a dance for camera film by filmmaker, Tina Blakeney and Choreographer, Anneliese Charek. 'As One' was originally created as a live performance for the 2015 'In the Flesh' performance series. The performance was then re-staged and filmed in the historic Shanghai building complex, 1933. "This piece was created for the dancers, and is about the dancers. It is an observation of the typical practice that asks them to move as one synchronised, almost militaristic group. It deals with the idea of following the masses, versus finding your own identity, as well as questioning whether conformity is something forced upon us or something we choose ourselves. " ‘As One’ is also a larger collaboration that brings together sound artist Pan Daijing, artist Dre Romero, and designer Anouk Sylvestar and twelve dancers from the Suzhou Dance Company.
The Horses - My Love EP- DIP001
The Horses - My Love EP - DIP001 Available on Disques Poney February 26th, 2014 - Junodownload Exclusive "My love" is centred around Laura Ingalls signature pitched out vocals who also wrote the most minimalist love song ever, it's about his love, what else do you need to know? The Horses are busy at it, releasing collabs with Magic Touch on 100% Silk, remixing Alex Barck for Sonar Kollektiv and expanding their gear collection and their release catalogue on a very regular basis! Laura Ingalls own version is a darkened gothic take on House Music with pianos inspired by Depeche Mode more than by classic House. Clement Pony's version is a bouncy affair with funky chords and highly danceable beats. Modstand brings his love of UK funky and all things break into the mix to create a floor-filler with a Brit Touch. --
